A ’Ralph Lauren’ T-shirt with a photo montage of Margaret Thatcher getting clattered round the head by a mounted policeman at the Battle of Orgreave is arguably an upgrade.
The policeman is cut from a photo of Lesley Boulton, who was documenting life on the picket line in the miners’ strike in 1984. She was pulled out of the way as a mounted policeman took a swing at her head with a truncheon. The police later claimed the image was doctored. The image of Thatcher is from a 1987 photograph of her so-called ‘walk in the wilderness’ across the wasteland of a former steel foundry.
